À quoi ressemble la station Bardonecchia ?

Bardonecchia is a sizable town with a pretty good sized ski area. Bardonecchia would make an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding French and Italian resorts. For this you would need a car. The resort offers 140 km of pistes that should amuse the beginner-intermediates but the experts will find the terrain a bit dull. The lift system may be a bit old, a common problem with Italian resorts, but Bardonecchia is quiet in the week so there are rarely any queues. At the weekend there is an influx of skiers from Turin and the resort can become crowded. Off the piste, the town of Bardonecchia lacks the charm of many alpine resorts, but it was primarily a transport town in the past. There are some excellent hotels and the nightlife is more sip than slurp which is not always a bad thing.

If you can check the snow/weather conditions a few days before booking your ski trip, I would say it is a good place to go. Nice village, good food, low budget, nice runs. But if you need to book all in advance, I will advise you to choose some place else. I booked in Dec/2023 trusting that in the end of Jan/2024 all would go well, but it was horrible. It was a very hot week, snow was melting or getting really icy, and almost all blue runs (my level!) were closed because there was no snow at all. Some of the red runs were in bad conditions too. It was a nightmare and my so much desired winter vacations were ruined regarding ski. Not Bardonecchia's fault of course, the problem was the weather, but I would never recommend or go back again.
